11/14 MLB News: Maybin Traded

November 14th 2010 13:06
It seems as if the Florida Marlins are done with Cameron Maybin. The once heralded outfield prospect with the Detroit Tigers was obtained by Florida a few years ago in the Miguel Cabrera trade. Maybin continues to struggle in his quest for consistency. Maybin finds it difficult to get regular playing time and has a terrible batting average. Cameron Maybin now has a new opportunity with the San Diego Padres.

San Diego packaged relievers Edward Mujica and Ryan Webb for him. Mujica is a decent reliever that needs to stop giving up big hits. He doesn't give a ton of contact up, he just gives up a lot of homers. However, he has an excellent strikeout rate and does not walk batters easily. Ryan Webb is the exact opposite. He gives up too many hits, but they aren't jacked out of the park. Webb does have control issues, but he is only 24. This is the second trade made by the Florida Marlins in what looks to be a busy offseason for them.

Edwin Encarnacion may be the power hitter that the Oakland Athletics have really been searching for. He blasted 21 homers last year. Nobody on the A's hit 20 home runs last year, so this was an extremely necessary signing. Encarnacion is a third baseman, and Oakland's home run leader last year was also a 3B. That man was Kevin Kouzmanoff who hit 16 dingers.

Carlos Beltran is one of the worst players in the league when you put his contract into play. Beltran is 33 and produces very little, yet he makes 19 million. He gets star treatment and treats himself like a star too. Beltran needs to realize that he is no longer a superstar. That label was stripped of him last season.

Carlos Beltran is best suited as a backup these days. At least, that's what his statistics from 2010 state. He is going to waive his no-trade clause to go to a contender, although he would like to retire a Met. No contender would want the man due for 18.5 mil next season. This upcoming season will be the last of his seven year deal.
