2010 Team Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers

Quarterback: The loss of Ben Roethlisberger for a few games stings quite a bit. I don't think it is that bad because I love their depth. Charlie Batch is a capable backup, Byron Leftwich is a starter that won't embarrass himself, and I think Dennis Dixon is a better play than a handful of starters in the league today.
Overall: B
Running back: I love this unit. I think Mewelde Moore is a good situational runner, I love rookie Jonathan Dwyer's upside, and Rashard Mendenhall is one of the top ten running backs in this game. That is unquestionable. The Steelers should get back into the spirit of running, just like in the good old days. They certainly are deep and talented enough.
Overall: A
Receivers: They are deep enough at the position, but Heath Miller and Hines Ward are the only proven players on the team. I like Mike Wallace and I think he'll have a nice year, but the Steelers need one more guy. It's a miracle that Big Ben consistently has big numbers.
Overall: D
Offensive Line: Even though there is a probe against Maurkice Pouncey, I stilll think he is an incredible talent that can play every position. Justin Hartwig is a great leader, Trai Essex is solid, I think Max Starks is pretty good, and Chris Kemoeatu gets the job done well. This is a great unit that under-performs. I think this is the year they get the job done.
Overall: B
Defensive Line: Ziggy Hood and Chris Hoke provide solid backup to Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, and Brett Keisel. Those three are good players, but they are all on the downsides of their career. I think Smith is the best one of those guys. That could change if Hampton somehow bounces back. It is a good, but not great unit.
Overall: B
Linebackers: I can say that this is the best group of linebackers in the league, hands down. LaMarr Woodley- even through the fiasco- is a great player. He and James Harrison are two great linebackers- Harrison is one of the best- and excel at the pass rush. Woodley is one of the best examples as far as terrorizing the passer goes. James Farriors and Larry Foote are good veterans; Farrior an incredible leader. Jason Worilds is a decent rookie prospect. Lawrence Timmons is a superstar in the making.
Overall: A
Defensive Backs: Bryant McFadden, Will Allen, Ike Taylor, and William Gay are all solid veterans. It's a shame Deshea Townsend is hurt, but he is among them if he plays. Troy Polamalu is a legend, and Ryan Clark is a good; hard-hitting safety.
Overall: B
Intangibles: I have no faith in anybody on their special teams, save Jeff Reed. The coaching staff is an incredible bunch. Mike Tomlin is one of the top coaches in the NFL.
Overall: B
I think that this team is good enough for 9-7, but not good enough to beat the Ravens. I think a Steelers-Bengals game will once again have that incredible flair to it.
