3/27 Sports Review: Go Green!

March 27th 2010 06:03
Northern Iowa's dramatic tourney run ended against the Lucasless Michigan State. The 59-52 victory was very sweet for Tom Izzo and his team. They played without superstar guard Kalin Lucas, their best player. Mr. March always finds his way. Durrell Summers showed up big for MSU with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Northern Iowa did not score a field goal in the final ten minutes.

Ohio State and Evan Turner were upset by Tennessee and Wayne Chism. Both players were incredible in the 76-73 nailbiter. Turner had 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. In my mind, Turner should be the number one pick. Chism had a double double with 22 points and 11 boards. Tennessee won because they have great defense whilst Turner pretty much carried Ohio State to the Sweet 16. The key for Tennessee was J.P. Prince's defense, including his block on Turner's desperation three at the buzzer. Prince finished with 14 points and 6 assists.

Duke easily crushed Purdue 70-57. I do have to commemorate Purdue on how far they got without superstar Robbie Hummel. Kyle Singler got himself back on track with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Purdue were sloppy for the most part, but JaJuan Johnson scored 23 with 5 rebounds.

Saint Mary's run was obviously going to end at the hands of a great Baylor team. Baylor is extremely underrated and have the awesome guard duo of Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn. Dunn scored 23 in the 72-49 run-out-of-the-house win. Only Ben Allen did anything for St. Mary's with his 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Longtime Steeler backup Charlie Batch took a two year deal with the Steelers to remain their backup until he is 37. It is a deal that makes sense, especially considering how much fans like him. The Chicago Bears want to trade nine year veteran star defensive end Alex Brown. If they cannot work out a deal, then he could be released.

The Atlanta Braves have made their decision, and Jason Hayward will start as their right fielder. Good going rookie. I can't wait to see his skills in a big league game. At least the Braves organization really care about getting better. Ken Griffey Jr. showed us some of his 1998 magic with a grand slam in the ninth inning. The Kid is one of my favorite players of all time and I wish he never had all those injuries.

The Oklahoma City Thunder stop the Los Angeles Laker's winning streak at seven. As a matter of fact, it was a 91-75 blowout. Superstar point guard Russell Westbrook had 6 assists and 23 points. Lamar Odom was the only steady factor on the Lakers with 15 points and 7 rebounds.

The Cleveland Cavaliers also lost their winning streak to a good western conference team. The San Antonio Spurs snapped the Cavs' 8 game winning streak in a close 102-97 contest. LeBron James was incredible as always with 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists. The surprising thing about the win was that Parker did not play and Duncan was hurt. However, Ginobili showed how amazing he is with his 30 point, 6 rebound, 6 assist performance. Remarkable.

Carmelo Anthony hit a buzzer beater, and the Toronto Raptors walked away as losers. The 97-96 come-from-behind win showed great determination by the Nuggets. Nene had 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Chris Bosh had 18 points, 12 rebounds, and even 5 assists.

The Phoenix Suns carried their winning streak to six against the New York Knicks. They routed old coach Mike D'Antoni 132-96. Amare Stoudamire has continued his dominance with 18 points and 9 rebounds. David Lee showed some big presence with 13 rebounds and 21 points.

Danny Granger had a career high 44 points and got the Pacers to upset the Jazz 122-106 in a stunning blowout. Mehmet Okur had 12 rebounds and 27 points. Granger had 44 with 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Jermaine O'Neal and Carlos Delfino were injured for the Heat and Bucks respectively. Dwayne Wade bested Manu with 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. John Salmons continues his starhood in Milwaukee with 23 points and 5 rebounds. 87-74 was the blowout win.

The Washington Wizards lost their 14th straight game, a franchise worse in a 106-97 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats. Andray Blatche, the man we all hate, scored 18 points with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Raymond Felton had 11 assists with 19 points for a huge game.

The New Jersey Nets will not be the worst team in history if they lose the rest of their games. They will just be tied with the 72-73 76ers with just 9 wins. Brook Lopez had a career high 37 points with 10 rebounds, and Yi Jilanian had a career high 31 points. The Detroit Pistons were on the embarrassing side of the loss. Tayshaun Prince had 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists for a monstrous game. 118-110 was the final score.

Wow. What a long day in sports. The MDA award has so many contestants. Danny Granger is one of my favorite players. 44 points, great all around night, and carried his team on his back to a blowout upset of a top team. Easy choice. Go Granger, and go Green!

44 Points, Big All-Around night, Huge Blowout Upset Victory
