5/19: All About Basketball

So you heard that the Washington Wizards have the top pick in this year's NBA Draft. The team is a mess. John Wall will be their future savior-hopeful. Calipari coached point guards have a ton of success in the NBA. Just look at the past two Rookie of the Year winners in Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose the year before. Wall is very excited at the prospect of playing in Washington.
I keep hearing the rumors of the possibility that the Indiana Pacers will move out of Indianapolis. The New Orleans Hornets have yet to select a coach, and former coach Mike Woods will finally get an interview done. The Hornets are ruled out as a contender for Woodson.
Rajon Rondo scored 25 points with 5 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the Boston Celtics in a 95-92 heartbeater against the Orlando Magic. The Magic now sit at a 2-0 hold. They broke down in crunch time, which is not something a championship can do. My prediction of the Celtics' victory is looking better and better.
Dwight Howard scored 30 points with 8 rebounds. Paul Pierce had 28 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Every Boston starter recorded a plus on the /- scale. They will both meet again on Saturday in Boston. The Phoenix Suns are down 1-0 and will play tonight against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Gilbert Arenas still has four years on his contract, believe it or not. The Washington Wizards' team president Ernie Grunfeld says that receiving the number one pick in the draft says nothing about Arenas's future with the team. For now, he is still on the team. The way Grunfeld is talking, Gil will be on the team this season.
Amare Stoudamire likes to get ahead of himself when he talks before games. His teammates have gotten used to it. Lamar Odom will flourish this series because the Phoenix Suns play an open-court system on defense.
Last game, Odom grabbed a playoff career high 19 rebounds to go with 19 points. Amare called that performance lucky, and said that the Suns were focused on Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum taking those boards. He said that Odom just snuck in, and that it would not happen again. He was right because the Suns kept Bynum and Gasol well off the boards. Those two only got 4 rebounds each in Game 1.
Suns' coach Alvin Gentry said that Amare was wrong. Again, I like Gentry because he will say stuff against stars. A lot of coaches are too cowardly to do that. I appreciate that in Gentry.
Anyway, Alvin Gentry also said that Odom is a good player and good players are capable of turning in those kinds of performances. I am on the fence with both STAT and Alv. Odom is a good player and is capable, but the Suns also got Gasol and Bynum- two 7-footers- off the boards and Odom just happened to lap them up when the Lakers got RBs.
By the way, I have some nicknames for basketball players.
Rajon Rondo- Ra-Ro or Rah-Roll
Brandon Roy- B-Roy or R-Boy or Our Boy
Manu Ginobili- Man G
Kendrick Perkins- Breakfast Meat
