5/26: Rumors and News

May 26th 2010 15:28
The Jacksonville Jaguars traded a conditional seventh round pick to the Miami Dolphins. I'll bet your thinking that they got some scrub nobody cares about. Well you are incorrect. Solid guard Justin Smiley was traded to the Jags, adding somebody to protect David Garrard. Smiley is 29 right now. Veterans are extremely cheap, so get them now!

Let me ask you this. Who in the seventh round can you get that will be better than Smiley? You could get someone, but that chance is 20 percent. I would take Smiley. He is making just two million a year, which is the fifth highest for an offensive lineman on the team. His value is a C-. A seventh rounder is an F.

Former Chicago Bears' scrub fullback Jason McKie went to the New Orleans Saints. He stinks, he is an F value wise. In his case, I would rather have a pick but this was no trade. He is 30 and makes more money than Pierre Thomas.

I have always despised Francisco Rodriguez. He is horribly overrated, has terrible temper, an enormous ego, and he has the stupidest, elaborate celebrations. Well Randy Niemann- The Mets' bullpen coach- told K-Rod to stop complaining and to shut the heck up". Well done. K-Rod's teammates dislike him so much, that they backed up "Niemo".

A genius- no sarcasm- got a new splint for Andre Ethier's broken pinky. Much to the happiness of others and I, it can be announced that he will probably return on Monday. I need all the help I can get for my Fantasy Baseball team.

If you didn't know, shortstop Omar Vizquel is 43. The future Hall of Famer will retire at the end of the season. This post is for you Omar. You were the best fielding shortstop of All Time.

To end the speculation, Roy Oswalt is not on the trade block just yet. This year he has already tallied 60 K's to go with a sparkling 2.66 ERA. The Baltimore Orioles are so bad that GM Andy MacPhail will be forced to fire horrible Manager Dave Trembley. I tell you, this move should have come sooner.

The Rockies signed Kazuo Matsui, who was released by the Houston Astros on Monday. Matsui will get a minor league deal. The former star second baseman has struggled to find the contact that established a solid bat. He still has his speed and defense, and he will be reunited with the Rockies. Don't expect him to start.

The Philadelphia Phillies are interested in two former superstar closers. Bobby Jenks is still one, but I am not sure if J.J. Putz still is. Both guys play for the Chicago White Sox. Jenks is fighting with Matt Thornton to remain the closer, while Putz is a top set-up man. Putz used to play for the Phillies' bitter rivals; the Mets. Putz is older, but he is cheaper and is doing better. Jenks is the better player, but I think the Phillies want the value. However, Putz is injury prone. Either is better than the horrible guys the Phils have now. Brad Lidge? Come on.

My Penguin boy Sergei Gonchar's contract is up. He wants a three year deal and five million per. However, that is a lot of money for an NHL player, so he will have to give a hometown contract or be traded. The superstar defender wants to stay, but this could sadly turn into a Ryan Malone story.

I bet you heard that legendary former hockey player Steve Yzerman is now in control of the Lightning. A new era in Tampa could be coming with him and Stamkos. Steve lived up to the bill, but will the MLB's Stephen?

It is rare that you see two bitter rivals in the same city making a trade. Well the New York Islanders and Rangers did just that. The Isles traded defenseman Jyri Niemi to the Rangers for a six rounder. Good move Rangers.

I'm suprised any team wants an Islander's prospect. They haven't panned out in the past. I think Houston should try to deal Oswalt ASAP, because as soon as Cliff Lee hits the block (which he will) Oswalt's value will go down due to the fact that he never pitched in the American League. I think Oswalt will wind up in either DC or Flushing.
