6/8: NFL News

June 8th 2010 16:26
I will now be able to post as often as I did two weeks ago. I was just experiencing some minor setbacks. There are a few nice pieces of information in the football world, and I would like to get to those today.

The PFWA awards- Professional Football Writers of America- were released. Drew Brees won the Good Guy Award- thankfully and not surprisingly. You go my man! The Good Guy Award goes to the player that best helped the media do their job.

Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer- not Don in baseball- won the Halas Award. That is given to the individual who overcame the most adversity to succeed. His wife Vicki died suddenly. They were married for 27 years. Three days after the tragedy, the Bengals won 17-14. They had the fourth best defense in the league, which was the team's highest ranking since 1993.

Gil Brandt is an NFL Draft consultant. He earned the Horrigan Award. That honors a person that helped the media best do their job. He is the league's best source for information on the draft.

Peter Finney of the New Orleans Times Picayune won the McCann Award. That honors a PFWA member for long and distinguished service. Finney is in his 64th year of sports coverage. The man is amazing.

The Houston Texans have won the Rozelle Award for the third time since 2004. That goes to the league public relations staff that best helped the media. 2004, 2007, and 2010 were the winning years. Great things come in three.

Just in case your interested, the previous winners of the Good Guy Award were Kurt Warner, Jerome Bettis, LaDainian Tomlinson, Tiki Barber, and Brett Favre.

Speaking of Favre, his best friend says that there is a 50/50 chance that #4 will return. Ryan Longwell was the kicker for the Vikings and Packers when Favre played for both teams.

Stan Kroenke is trying to own the St. Louis Rams. He already owns the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche. The NFL doesn't let owners hold ownership of other teams in different markets.

Kroenke says that he will give the Rams to his son Josh. I smell BS. I hope Kroenke gets denied. What a business sleaze. No wonder why we can't get a CBA. We have corrupt people like this guy holding ownership.

One last note. No hometown discount for Tom Brady. None at all. Good boy Tommy. Get that money. Your the coverboy of Patriots football. Your the best Pats player of All Time.
