7/1 Ask Up: NBA Free Agents
July 1st 2010 15:32
1. Where are the headline NBA Free agents going? LeBron, Joe Johnson, Bosh, Amare, Dirk, and Wade.
I think LeBron is going to a big market team. He will join forces with young stars Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah with the Chicago Bulls. LBJ will be on the President's team, and a team reminiscent of Michael Jordan. This is a sports crazy, basketball crazy team.
I think Joe Johnson will resign with the Hawks. They will pay up. Dirk and Wade are staying with their respective teams. The Heat love Amare, and STAT would love to play with Wade and Riley. Chris Bosh is the toughest one. I think that the New Jersey Nets will able to snag him. He would love to play with point guard Devin Harris and form a frontcourt tandem with Brook Lopez.
2. What do you think of the recent Bengie Molina trade?
I think the Giants knew they had Buster Posey as their guy. He will become a Super 2, meaning he will play the remainder of the season and have a closer arbitration that will likely yield more money than before like what happened to Lincecum. The Giants needed to save the money.
The Rangers really needed a catcher. I would take the stalwart RBI likeness of Bengie than the decent hitting skills of AJ P of the White Sox. They were supposed to get him as rumored early in the year, but the Sox catching prospect in the minors wasn't doing well enough. Molina makes Texas even more stacked offensively, and is a huge upgrade over Max Ramirez.
3. What are some headline news in free agency?
Right after I wrote number one, I checked and saw that JJ- Joe Johnson- will sign a max deal with the Hawks. Atlanta gave him that at midnight right when free agency started to shore up the star. Johnson is great and one of my favorite players, but he isn't a max guy. The deal is worth a whopping 119 million dollars over 6 years. No way should he be paid nearly 20 million a year.
LeBron's chances with the Cavs are slim now, because they hired coach Byron Scott. That was not a guy the superstar wanted. Doc Rivers is staying back with Boston as expected. All the rumors about him leaving were stupid.
The first free agent was officially signed. Veteran power forward Drew Gooden was solid last year averaging 11 points and 8 rebounds per game. They paid him 32 million over five years. I think the money and years are too much, but they did get a quality guy.
The Bucks are hoping that John Salmons will stick around. Before free agency, they acquired young and promising swingman Chris Douglas-Roberts from the Nets for a second round pick in 2012. That was a bargain by the Bucks, who have made several smart moves this year. The Gooden signing was good player wise, but they overpaid. That broke their streak.
4.Who is going to win the World Cup?
I sincerely think it is going to be Brazil. They have showed top offense with Maicon, Dani Alves, Luis Fabiano, and Kaka. Their defense has also been extremely effective with Maicon, Dani Alves, and Lucio. I also admire what Julio Caesar has done between the goalposts. This is a truly fluid offensive team with enough defense to get them number 6.
5. Rank the top 15 fantasy starting pitchers for me.
1. Ubaldo Jimenez
2. Roy Halladay
3. Cliff Lee
4. Tim Lincecum
5. Felix Hernandez
6. Adam Wainwright
7. Yovani Gallardo
8. Josh Johnson
9. CC Sabathia
10. Chris Carpenter
11. Justin Verlander
12. Jered Weaver
13. David Price
14. Danny Haren
15. Matt Cain
