Cushing Fallout and Rumors

May 13th 2010 14:35
Thankfully Brian Cushing still retained his Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. If he didn't, then I would be fuming. The vote was already tallied and he won. I do want to bring up an interesting topic on medicine in the NFL though.

Fans want to see the schedule extended to 18 games. Two more games is fun and isn't too much, right? Yeah, the average fans are wrong. Two games piles up a ton of injuries, especially those for veteran players. This is not what we want in the game. I like Stephonia Bell, but I don't want to hear an hour-long injury report in the league.

That's were new technology and medicine come into play. There are medicines out there that can rapidly help the recovering process of an athlete on an injury like a sprained ankle. So far these medicines are listed as PEDs. They aren't performance-enhancing other than enhancement during injuries. Face it, we all want medicines to recover from painful injuries. Why can't people that crush their bodies almost daily get these same medicines? It's time for a change. Old systems no longer work.

Running back Brian Westbrook once received great interest from the St.Louis Rams, but he never signed a deal. The Washington Redskins already acquired Donovan McNabb, so they might hook up a friend of his with a gig on the team. They already have three running backs that have been 1,000 yard rushers. Could they add a fourth? All of them would be slumping former-stars. However, it doesn't hurt to try.

Shawne Merriman was in trade talks with three teams before the NFL Draft. He almost went to the Super Bowl Champs in New Orleans, until his agent wanted a long-term deal done at the end. The San Diego Chargers are with the rest of the teams in the league. They don't want not-so-Merry-Man inked with a big contract. He has been a bad influence and hasn't preformed to justify his misbehavior. Merriman was formerly one of the best pass rushers and linebackers in the game just a few years ago.

Right now all that talk about Lawrence Taylor may get cleared. He did not have sex with the 16 year old that lied and said she was 19. He just masturbated. The hooker told her friend it was easy money. The stripper told police the real story of what happened. That stripper is a friend of the 16 year old girl that drove her to LT that night.

The same person also said that the pimp beat her up not because she didn't want to go, but because her sister's boyfriend stole brandy and marijuana from the pimp's house. That is weird stuff. Taylor might be cleared of that rape charge.

Brian Westbrook is looking to take the place of third-down running back J.J. Arrington of the Denver Broncos. Westbrook will visit Denver today. Personally, I would still much rather have Westbrook on my team than Arrington. Age is experience, and not-so-good running backs aren't so good.

Brett Favre isn't sure if that ankle of his is going to have surgery. If not, he will retire and not play for the Minnesota Vikings. The Purple say that #4 will play, but nobody can ever be too sure when it's Favre we're talking about.

The New Jersey Nets now have Mikhail Prokhorev confirmed as their owner. He is the second richest person in Russia. Legendary team president Rod Thorn asked former Mavs coach Avery Johnson for an interview. That is a good move to get a former Western Conference Champion winning coach. Johnson does have some interest too.

The Philadelphia Phillies really do steal signs. The Mets have said it, the Yankees have said it, Larry Bowa has said it, and now ESPN is saying it. They cheated in the World Series last year and still lost. Mick Billmeyer is the team's bullpen coach. He pulled out some binoculars and was looking at catcher Miguel Olivo with them. Bowa was a former manager and star for the Phils.

On a last note, I am still fuming that the Pittsburgh Penguins' game 7 loss against Montreal. I knew it was coming. The Canadians and Halak ripped through Washington. I think they have what it takes to win the whole thing. Will they? Probably not. But like I always say, never rule anything out.
