D'Backs Make Amends

Remember how the D'backs traded Danny Haren for garbage? Well the second time they traded away a starter, they got smarter. Once again, an AL Central team trades a top prospect for a guy that is only average.

Edwin Jackson. When some people hear that name, they think of a no hitter this year. When I hear it, I think of an overrated and overpaid starting pitcher that is much to streaky. I think of a guy that gives up too many hits, and gets clobbered far too much.

The Chicago White Sox added him to play alongside Jake Peavy, Mark Buerhle, John Danks, and Gavin Floyd. However, they gave up top pitching prospects Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg. Hudson is one of the best prospects in the majors. He is pro ready. Holmberg is a lefty that has a lot of promise. Those both amount to much more than Jackson.

As a huge Yankees fan, I was extremely pleased to hear that they acquired Lance Berkman and Austin Kearns. I wrote in a post yesterday that Berkman will likely be traded- Really Long Link - I can't believe it came true in the same day, especially to the Yanks.

Reliever Mark Melancon and prospect Jimmy Paredes were traded to Houston. I like this deal for the Yankees because those two aren't good prospects. Paredes is pretty good, but Melancon is subpar. The Stros will also pay part of Berk's contract.

Former Nationals star and this year's step-up hero for the Indians also joined the Bronx Bombers. Outfielder Austin Kearns was acquired for a player to -be-named. That player will decide who got the better of that trade.

The New York Mets traded power hitter Mike Jacobs to the Blue Jays. Toronto love power guys. The Mets got a player to be named. That means I like the deal for both teams. Toronto could always use more power and less contact. They don't care about BA anyway.

The Chicago Cubs released Bob Howry. He is not the same top set-up man he used to be back when he was intimidating. Now he's just old and horrible. He is worse than Mr. Blow-a-save Trevor Hoffman.

The Washington Nationals traded Cristian Guzman for pitching prospects Tanner Roark and Ryan Tatusko. I criticize the Rangers for adding way too many players- especially considering they're broke. They also don't really need Guzman. Sure the prospects stink, but the Nats are rebuilding. Nice job of captial rebuilding!

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Joey Graham. The swingman has had a dismal and disappointing career after being a heralded youngster with the Raptors. Graham was one of the worst players last year while with the Denver Nuggets.
