O.J. LewisDeals and More Deals-Camby and Wang
Many last minute MLB signings are taking place, as well as deadline NBA deals. Former defensive player of the year and this year's second best rebounder, Marcus Camby, found a new team.
Camby was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for point guard Steve Blake and small forward Travis Outlaw along with some cash. Marcus Camby is a very good center, and will greatly help the Blazers. Joel Pryzbilla and Greg Oden made up the Blazers' 1-2 punch at center, but both are injured.
An interesting point in this deal is that everybody has an expiring contract. The Clippers got off a horrible deal because Camby was already an expiring contract, and Outlaw has been injured for most of this season. The deal for the Clippers was all about the money. They really only cared about the extra cash in the deal that eventually went into the owner's pocket.
The Blazers now are a good darkhorse team come playoff time. Camby was the best defensive player out on the market, and the Blazers just got deeper. The deal also allows rookie guard Jerryd Bayliss to get more playing time, and to create a backcourt tandem with Andre Miller. Miller and Camby were former teammates with the Denver Nuggets.
Chien-Ming Wang, as expected, took a one year deal worth two million a year with the Washington Nationals. The deal has no risks because it is a one year deal, and it is very cheap. He is looking healthier than he has in two years. Wang will improve because there is almost not pressure on him with the Nats. Especially compared with the scrutiny of pinstripes.
Wang also has the chance to gain three million dollars in performance bonuses. It is a good deal for the Nats, because there is no risk but medium-high reward.
