Miami Dolphin linebacker Joey Porter apologized to Jacksonville Wide Receiver Matt Jones for bringing his name up in a discussion about fines levied against NFL players by the league. Matt Jones was charged with cocaine possession after a police officer allegedly caught him in his vehicle cutting up cocaine with a credit card. Jones was subsequently suspended three games by the league, but Jones appealed the fine and is able to play until his case is heard by the commissioner. In a conference call on Wednesday, Porter was asked to respond to the fines and suspensions being dished out by the NFL. Porter said he could not believe that he was fined twenty thousand dollars for criticizing an official while Jones was still allowed to play despite the cocaine charge. Jones reacted angrily and said, "I don't know why he is even thinking about me. I mean, maybe he likes other men, and sits up and thinks about stuff, so I don't know. Is Joey Porter the commissioner?' In other related news, Jason Tuck, the New York Giants Defensive Lineman who was penalized on a play where he threw down Dallas Cowboy Backup Quarterback Brooks Bollinger to the ground and was later fined $7,500 by the league, had his fine rescinded by Commissioner Goodell after Goodell said he watched the play in question. Dropping the fine may be a way to appease several players who have publicly voiced their concerns over the harsh fines that they are paying under Goodell's reign as Commissioner of the NFL, including Troy Polamulu, the hard-hitting safety of the Pittsburg Steelers.
