Welcome to the world of Extreme Ironing!
According to the official website, this is a sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.
The sport was invented in 1997 by a man who decided that he wanted to combine ironing and rockclimbing, and in 1999 he went on an international tour to promote his new sport. Skip to 2002 and the first world championships of the event took place. There were five sections in the Ironing championship:
* Urban- Involved ironing in/on/around a broken down car. These days they iron on moving cars as well.
* Water- A fast flowing river was the location for this station. Competitors could use surfboards, canoes or rubber rings to help them.
* Forest- Ironing at the top of a tree
* Rocky- A purpose built climbing wall, which ironists had to climb and iron a t-shirt.
* Freestyle- The section where "anything goes".
So next time someone in your household complains about the dull nature of ironing, tell them to take it to the extreme!
