Interesting Perfecto Sightings

May 10th 2010 17:43
You all know my feelings about that idiot Dallas Braden. You also know he threw a perfect game, the 19th in history. An interesting thing is that Buerhle's perfecto last year, and Braden's this year are very similar. Both pitchers are lefties that pitched at home against the Tampa Bay Rays.

You have noticed that the gem last night was the second no-hitter this year already. Are no-hitters easier to come by? Sure they are rare, but aren't 50 HR seasons even rarer? After all, nobody hit 50 dingers last year. I just want you readers to think about that and mull on it. Send in some comments.

Rajon Rondo and Steve Nash's masterful pirate performance- yeah, yeah the one eye pun- showed us why point guard is the most valuable position in the league. Not only is a high-level PG dynamic and game-changing, but they are also the quarterbacks and leaders on your team.

In the NFL, you have to have a good quarterback to be in the Super Bowl. Likewise, in the NBA you must have a point guard leading your team offensively. In basketball it is even more incumbent to have a solid point guard because they also impact the game defensively. Granted, Nash is no defender but Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo are remarkable defenders. By the way, Nash is a great passer. The best passer. That is a trait every "quarterback" must have.

Rondo had an insane game last night in a win against Cleveland. He had a whopping 18 rebounds, 13 assists, and 29 points. He is a great defender, the best rebounding guard, and a great passer. His pass-first mentality really helps his teammates, and you would never think a point guard could ever rebound 18 in a game. His performance is probably THE GREATEST by a Celtics player in playoff history. That is a hallowed group he beat.

Now let's not get carried away. Chris Paul and Deron Williams are still better point guards. In my mind, Rondo has always been the third best in the league behind those two stalwarts. One playoff performance does not elevate everything. Fans look at games like that and they put too much weight in it. Did you know that Namath and Doug Williams weren't even great players at all?

Look at Larry Fitzgerald. Great player, but no Hall of Famer. People were dubbing him that just because he made a lot of catches. You have to remember, at that time there was nobody else Warner could throw it to. Now Rondo WILL ultimately become the best point guard in the game. He just isn't right now.

Left tackle Alex Barron was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for Bobby Carpenter. The deal makes sense for both teams. Carpenter is the slightly better player, and the Rams need those kinds of guys that are not unknowns on their defense to rebuild it. The Rams also want to give other guys the chance to swap to their natural positions on the line.

The Cowboys need an OK left tackle to replace Flozell Adams. They found that guy in Barron. He is not great, but he is alright. Phillies fans, don't count on Jayson Werth playing next year. Werth wants too much money than the Phils are willing to play. Philly also have top prospect Dominic Brown ready to fill that spot. I suggest they trade Werth. Part of the budget reason is the Howard lock-up. I still commend them for the Howard move because Howard is more loved by fans, he is better, and he is also younger.

Starlin Castro could spell the end of Mike Fontenot's tenure in Chicago. He is on the trading block, but I don't know who wants the subpar second baseman. Ozzie Guillen is finally thinking straight. The best set-up man in the league is about to replace a slumping former stud closer. Bobby Jenks will soon be swapped for the electric Matt Thornton. Goes to show that the closer is an insecure spot on the roster.
