Jazz vs. Nuggets Game 2: Beyond the Box Score
April 20th 2010 14:16
We all know- or should know- that the Utah Jazz beat the Denver Nuggets 114-111 to even up the series. We also know that Deron Williams carried the shorthanded Jazz by scoring 33 points with 14 assists. The next few paragraphs will go inside to show you the numbers and what they really mean.
Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points. That's great, right? Wrong. He never made a 3 but only attempted one, and he scored 14 of those points on free throws. He shot 9 for 25. Ouch. 36 percent. Most of them were two pointers from the right side.
Denver lost thanks to a bad second quarter. They were outscored 30-21. That was the highest difference of any of the quarters. All the other ones had closer scores.
Deron's stats were no fluke. He passed and scored with ease. D-Will shot 75% from downtown and also drove. However, he did have seven turnovers. Actually, cross out the 'however'. The man had 14 assists and touched the ball more than any other player. He carried his team.
Carlos Boozer had a great game. He scored 20 points and was 10-16. Although, he did take a few bad shots. Boozer never made a shot outside of 18 feet. CJ Miles shot well as a field goal percentage, scored 17 points, and made all of his free throws. However, of the six shots he took at least 16 feet from the basket, he missed them all.
Nene was awesome everywhere but the free throw line. Kyle Korver was once again sharpshooting. Chauncey Billups was passing and hitting FTs, but he was a shooting mess. He shot under 50 percent and was throwing up horrible jumpers. He shot seven threes but only made two of them.
Kenyon Martin was incredible. That is why they missed him. He shot 7-10, had a game high 3 blocks, and scored 15 points.
