December 26th 2008 02:53
Phil Jackson won his 1000th victory in style, becoming only the 6th coach to do it, by defeating the World Champion Boston Celtics 92-83. Jackson achieved the milestone in 11 fewer games than Pat Riley, making him the fastest to reach that mark, and his career record is 1000-423. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 27 points, and he also led the Lakers in rebounds with nine. He added five assists to lead his team to victory and gift wrap his present to his coach, victory 1000, against the Lakers arch nemesis and the team that defeated them in the finals last year- The Boston Celtics. The Celtics still own the league's best record at 27-3, but the Lakers are not far behind with the best record in the Western Conference at 24-5. They seem to be on a crash course to meeting again in the finals. Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 22 points, and he also had nine rebounds. Paul Pierce also added twenty points, and he led the Celtics in rebounds with 10.
