Lawrence Taylor, JaMarcus Russell, All-NBA

May 7th 2010 14:49
I don't want to get into the Lawrence Taylor stuff until later on in this post on this beautiful Friday.

It was no surprise that the Oakland Raiders cut number one pick, lazy-butt JaMarcus Russell. In his three years he has done absolutely nothing but get fat and throw interceptions. Say hello to a new era featuring Jason Campbell and Rolando McClain. I guess Al Davis feels good about not trading superstar Nnamdi Asomugha. However, they should never have dealt stud linebacker Kirk Morrison as you can see in an older post.

Rising superstar Jahri Evans is now a rich man. The young guard anchored the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl winning offensive line. Evans had an All-Pro nod last year. He was rewarded with a monstrous seven year and 57 million dollar deal, the richest in history for a guard. Now get over it. Money is worth less than it used to be- you used to be able to buy a soda for 5 cents- so don't go screaming about money. It was a good deal to lock up a star that protects their pearly Brees.

My rumor a couple of posts ago was correct. The Cincinnati Bengals are giving Pacman Jones an unrightful second chance. The speedy, ill-behaved cornerback got a two year deal. He will back up the best cornerback duo in the business. That is Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph.

I love random bits of info, so here come some basketball rumors. Former Toronto Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell is being interviewed for the Philadelphia 76ers' vacant coaching job. Mitchell is interested, and was the Coach of the Year back in 2006.

Longtime coach Mike Fratello is being interview by the New Orleans Hornets. Mark Cuban contradicts an old rumor by saying that Dirk Nowitzki will not leave the Dallas Mavericks. ESPN analyst declined a coaching job with the Sixers. Chris Bosh could be leaving Toronto after all.

Lance Berkman had a no-trade clause, but he said he would waive it if he could go to a contender he likes. A famous thing on the news is that disgruntled DH Milton Bradley is asking his organization for help. By the way, the M's released outfielder Eric Byrnes in case you didn't hear about that.

Now it is the moment some of you basketball fans have been waiting for. The All-NBA team is way more important than the All Star team. Look, fans voted in Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady this year. Those two barely even played. The year before, Yi and Yao were voted in by numerous votes from the Chinese. Yao made sense, but Yi was a laugh at the top of the ballot sheet.

First Team
C Dwight Howard/Defensive Player of the Year
F LeBron James/ MVP
F Kevin Durant/ Scoring Champ
G Kobe Bryant/2009 Finals MVP
G Dwayne Wade

Second Team
C Amare Stoudamire
F Dirk Nowitzki
F Carmelo Anthony
G Deron Williams
G Steve Nash

Third Team
C Andrew Bogut
F Pau Gasol
F Tim Duncan
G Joe Johnson
G Brandon Roy

I fully agree with the choices above. Thanks fellow sportswriters for a great ballot turnout. It is time for the big story. The story about Lawrence Taylor.

As always, LT- the original- is innocent until proven guilty. A known fact is that Taylor has always been forgiven for his off the field conduct because of his great play on the field. Even before this incident, Lawrence Taylor almost did not get inducted to the Hall of Fame because of his behavior.

Throughout his life, he struggled with a cocaine addiction. His organization always tried to help him through his problems and tried to teach him, but he never listened. Lawrence Taylor is the best linebacker of All-Time, and one of the best players of all time. However, that is no excuse.

He allegedly raped a sixteen year old girl in a motel. We haven't heard his side of the story, which makes this whole scenario very raw. LT is going to fall very hard because of his celebrity status. Just because you are well-known and rich doesn't mean you can be excused. In fact, being popular puts your life under scrutiny which makes it much worse if you mess up. Your whole life is magnified. Just ask Tiger Woods.

Although the court system plays it innocent until proven guilty, the public does not. Once word gets out, he is guilty in the publics eyes. Or at least he is a mortified and despised. Taylor's respect has drastically dropped. Not many people like him anymore. However, my good friend O.J. says LT didn't do it. Did he? We soon may or may not find out.

Should he be out of the HOF? No. I do think we should think less of him as a person, not a player. The Hall of Fame is a museum, not the Vatican. Just remember we can't forget about the best linebacker in history. We should think of him as a horrible person and an example of who not to be like.
