As promised, Sport Great's player of the week for week 11 of the NFL Season is Marion Barber, the running back for the Dallas Cowboys. Some players had better statistics, but no player influenced their teams fate more than did Marion Barber. Marion Barber carried the ball 24 times for 114 yards and one touchdown, and he caught six passes for 39 yards against the number four defense in the NFL. But statistics do not begin to tell the story of why Marion Barber is the player of the week. With the Cowboys nursing a 4 point lead and taking over the ball with 6:40 left in the game, Marion Barber touched the ball for 11 out of the next 13 plays. The two plays that he did not touch the ball on were kneel downs by Tony Romo, as the Cowboys drained the remainder of the clock to get the victory. Marion Barber had the mentality of "Give me the damn ball." The Redskins knew he was going to get the ball, but they could not stop him. Wade Phillips had the confidence to give him the ball on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal to take a seven point lead. Marion Barber did not disappoint his coach or his teammates by picking up the 1st down and finishing his job for the evening. The energy with which Barber ran the ball on the last drive was nothing short of amazing, especially after battling against the tough Redskins defense for three and a half quarters. Marion Barber may have saved the Cowboys season with his fire, passion and skill during Week 11. And for that reason, he is the 1st winner of Sport Great's Player of the Week!
