NBA Rumors

February 16th 2010 06:35
Thursday is the NBA's trade deadline. There are names like Andre Iguodala, Amare Stoudamire, and Tracy McGrady being thrown around. There are many rumors, and I will do the same as I did with the NFL's rumors.
The Blazers are about to make some trades that could help them acquire Laker's guard Sasha Vujacic and Bull's forward Tyrus Thomas. The Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets also have interest in obtaining Thomas, but it seems there are no other teams interested in Vujacic. The Nuggets previously made trades for DeAndre Jordan, Antonio McDyess, and Ben Wallace. However, they have not been able to get a trade done for those players. The Rockets tried to get Caron Butler, but Butler was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The Rockets are now most interested in acquiring Thomas or Antawn Jamison. I think that the Blazers will get Vujacic, and the Heat will get Jamison so that they can bring in a star to keep Wade happy. Tyrus will go to the Blazers as well.

Another rumors says that the Heat are front-runners in a Jamison deal. They really want to deal the star forward in order to save cap. The Cavaliers were interested, but they are pushing for Amare. If the Wizards cannot trade Jamison, then they will buy out Drew Gooden's contract. Jamsion will go to the Heat.
The New York Knicks want to obtain Tracy Mcgrady's 23 million dollar expiring contract. It seems like Al Harrington, Larry Hughes, and either Toney Douglas or Jordan Hill would be in the package. Larry Hughes will have to be in the deal in order to balance the checks. The Chicago Bulls are also a team interested in McGrady, but they are already in talks with the Knicks for a Tyrus Thomas-Al Harrington swap. The Knicks and Rockets will get the deal done, and the Bulls will have dealt Tyrus Thomas to Portland.

All those rumors that we have been hearing about connected to a Michael Beasley trade are false. The Heat see him as part of the team's core. Beasley will not be traded.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are the top-dawgs in the Amare race. It seems that they would trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas and JJ Hickson for Stoudamire. However, nobody has committed to the trade. The 76ers and Heat are also teams interested. I think Amare will stay with the Suns, and cash in his 17 million dollar option.
Jerry Colangelo might come out of retirement to take over the New Jersey Nets. Rick Pitino was also mentioned as a man interested in the job, but he strongly denied those rumors. I don't know if Pitino really means what he is saying, but I think Colangelo does, and he will ultimately get the job.
I feel like reviewing the seven-player Caron Butler deal. Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, and DeShawn Stevenson were traded from the Washington Wizards to the Dallas Mavericks. Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Quinton Ross, and James Singleton were dealt to the Wizards. The Mavs dumped off Gooden and Howard, two players they wanted to get rid of. Ross and Singleton are poor players, especially Singleton. Stevenson is OK, and has a good shot. Caron Butler is a star and Brendan Haywood is very good. The Wizards dumped off Butler and saved much needed salary cap. Talent is not a problem for them, because they are going nowhere. They did a nice job in getting a good player in Josh Howard. It was a win-win situation, and the Mavericks look like a very dangerous basketball team after that trade.
The Timberwolves are interested in Tyrus Thomas, but they will not get him. The Trail Blazers will likely trade the expiring contracts of Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake with cash and/or a second-round pick to acquire Marcus Camby. Camby is also an expiring contract, but is a top defender and rebounder. The deal makes sense for both teams. Blazer's GM Kevin Pritchard wants to clear room for Jerryd Bayless to get some playing time with Andre Miller. He does not need Steve Blake. It is a great deal for both teams. The Clips also want to add Sebastian Telfair with Camby, but the Blazers do not want to have him back on their roster. Telfair started his career in Portland. The injuries of Joel Pryzbilla and Greg Oden have a lot to do with the Camby deal.
The last rumor is a pretty short one. The San Antonio Spurs are trying to trade guard Roger Mason. The veteran has an expiring contract, and there are quite a few teams interested in Mason.
