Oswalt Traded and Stupid Trade Twins
Roy Oswalt approved his move from Houston to Philadelphia. The Phillies acquired their second ace named Roy. The Phils got quite a bit of cash to help pay off some expensive options. Oswalt will play for the team for a few more years. The Astros received young starting pitcher J.A. Happ. He was second place last year in Rookie of the Year voting. Happ is extremely promising.
Houston also got shortstop prospect Jonathan Villar- he is very fast- and top outfield prospect Anthony Gose. I like the deal for the Astros because they got a top prospect and a very talented young starter.
The Astros then traded Gose to the Blue Jays for another top prospect, Brett Wallace. This deal is nice for both teams, and it gives us a big clue to Lance Berkman's future. Wallace is a first base prospect that will make an impact next year. This means that Berkman is not going to be in Minute Maid for long.
The San Diego Padres realized they need a veteran presence and another power guy if they want to sustain their lead in the NL West. Former Home Run Derby champion Miguel Tejada- I watched his remarkable performance too- was traded from the Orioles. The O's had just hired Buck Showalter as I predicted.
The Padres also got 1.15 million dollars to help pay off Tejada's contract. Baltimore received top pitching prospect Wynn Pelzer. The Padres did a great job in filling a need, and the Orioles are rebuilding well by getting a good young prosepct.
The Texas Rangers acquired Jorge Cantu, and yet again another rumor written on Sport Great came true. Thanks again for providing research Yahoo! Sports!
Anyway, the Marlins got Omar Poveda and Evan Reed. I think the Rangers got a great deal off. They acquired a nice first baseman that will immensely help them retain their division lead, and the prospects they gave up weren't all that good.
Bryce Harper has a friend in Washington. The Nationals just acquired another top catching prospect for measly Matt Capps. Pitcher Joe Testa also went to the Nats. The top prospect is catcher Wilson Ramos. The Twins surely got ripped off. Capps will only close for the rest of the season, and he is very inconsistent. It makes no sense and was an utterly stupid deal for the Twins. Bryce Harper will move into the outfield. The Twins also received cash, but that doesn't do much. Ramos was the second best prospect for Minnesota.
The Miami Heat keep on signing. Former Celtics sharpshooter and 2008 Finals hero Eddie House signed a two year deal. It is a bargain, at just 2.8 million dollars for the whole contract. The Heat are really showing that they can surround their superstars with the right supporting cast.
Rapidly declining tackle Flozell Adams signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team was desperate after Willie Colon tore his Achilles' tendon. Adams will get a two year deal. He is 35 years old. I would rather have Colon, but what can they do? Throw in a scrub and risk injuries in the face of Suggs, Ray, and Ngata? No way.
