Pacquiao defeats De la Hoya via TKO in Round Eight.

Oscar sat on his bench in his corner at the end of round eight with a doctor looking at his swollen right eye, and his trainer imploring him to stop the fight. Oscar took in what was being said to him, and he seemed to seriously consider going out for round nine, but instead he abruptly stood up and walked to the center of the ring and congratulated Manny Pacquiao, ending the fight by TKO. Manny went to his corner and knelt in a prayer of thanks. Many people seemed to worry that Pacquiao risked getting hurt in this fight since De la Hoya was a bigger fighter in height and in reach, but it was Pacquiao who looked like the bully, hitting De la Hoya at will with a straight left hand that De la Hoya simply could not defense. Pacquiao seemed to have mercy on De la Hoya at times, especially in the seventh and eighth rounds when he seemed to halt his onslaught to allow De la Hoya to regain his composure. The fight was not even close, and De la Hoya looked old, and gaunt, because he focused too much of his attention on conditioning and not enough on defensing Pacquiao's left jab. Pacquiao on the other hand looked every bit the fighter he is advertised to be: The best pound for pound fighter in the world. He looked fast, invincible, and unbeatable. Hopefully De la Hoya will look in the mirror tomorrow and see his swollen face, and perhaps spend some time with his wife and children, and end his career with his legacy and brain cells intact before he undergoes anymore punishment or embarrassment.
