Pitching at Premium
July 20th 2010 17:17
The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for pitching. I guess they lost their faith in John Ely. The Dodgers are looking at Oswalt, Lilly, Haren, Jake Westbrook, Carmona, Kevin Gregg, Scott Downs, and Jason Frasor. With the addition of at least one of these guys, they could be vaulted into the lead of the NL Wild Card race.
The Chicago White Sox are trying to get Adam Dunn. The problem is that Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is once again overvaluing his players. A source said that Rizzo is asking for an extremely high price. A price that would be enough to get an elite guy like Ryan Howard. GM Kenny Williams is having none of that. He won't trade Gordon Beckham, and I wouldn't blame him. Williams is willing to deal top prospects Daniel Hudson and Dayan Viciedo.
Do any of you guys remember Willy Mo Pena? Yeah, the power guy for the Nationals that never panned out. Wait, there are a lot of guys that fit that description. Right Rizzo? Anyway, the San Diego Padres will sign him to a minor league deal. Welcome to AAA Willy Mo!
The injury to Andy Pettitte has spurned a need for pitching in the Bronx. The Yankees are looking at the usual guys like Lilly, Haren, and Carmona to add. I doubt they will get Haren because his price is too high. I really like Carmona, but Lilly is just not what the Yanks need. However, if the Yankees are smart enough and trade Joba in a Haren deal; I will be so elated. That would be a smart move.
Let me rank the five starting pitchers on the trade block.
1. Danny Haren A
2. Fausto Carmona B
3. Roy Oswalt B
4. Ted Lilly C
5. Jake Westbrook C-
