O.J. LewisPlaxico Burress posts 100,000 bail.
Plaxico Burress posted $100,000 dollar bail today on his weapons possession charges and was released. He was not required to make a plea, and he will be required to return to court on March 31st. According to his attorney Benjamin Brafman, Plaxico was not injured to the extent that he could not play, and that he could play if he was allowed. But based on Goodell's recent history of discipline, Burress will not be putting his pads on any time soon. In addition, with the media attention this case has received, the public is pressure is going to be very intense to ensure that Burress does not get star treatment. He could receive up to 3 1/2 years of jail time for the charges. Also, New York Mayor Bloomberg has weighed in on the case, saying that it would be an "outrage" if the case was not prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and the charge requires a mandatory jail time. You can bet he will get jail time, just like Michael Vick. In addition, he better start eating a lot of humble pie. Otherwise, Goodell will be stiff with his punishment. Michael Vick has done everything possible to apologize and clean up his act, because he knows that he is at Goodell's mercy. Plaxico will have to do the same. Even if he gets back in the league soon, do not bet on the Giants welcoming him back. He has become a cancer on the team recently, and his actions may have even jeopardized the status of star linebacker Antonio Pierce, who was with Plaxico at the club and is being investigated in the case. There was a third person with the duo at the club, and it was rumored to be Derrick Ward, but Derrick has denied that he was there. Plaxico seems to have wrestled the title of "NFL Bad Boy" from Pacman Jones, who coincidentally will make his return from a four game suspension this week when the Cowboys take on the Steelers.
