Random Sports Musings 2: Westbrook and LT
Sorry I took a hiatus on you guys. I was just really busy these past few days doing things such as writing raps. A lot has passed since my last posed. Most namely, the divorce filings of two great running backs.
Last year, LaDainian Tomlinson ran for just 730 yards with a 3.3 yards per carry average. Both totals were the lowest in his entire career. He is thirty years old. When a running back hits the big three-oh, he hits the wall and is never the same again. The only bright side was that he scored twelve rushing touchdowns, which means that LT can still score. Tomlinson says he still has football left in him. Of course he does. But is it good football in him? As he busily waves tearful goodbyes to the franchise he played nine season with, he must realize that the market for him is very low. He obviously wants to win an elusive Super Bowl title, but there is almost no chance of him playing for a contending team. I don't think his former backup, Darren Sproles, can fill the void. The Bolts need to draft a running back. Mark Ingram?
Brian Westbrook was not surprisingly released by the Philadelphia Eagles. The 31 year old running back missed half his games last season. He at least averaged 4.5 yards per carry. His concussion was so bad that he was considering retirement. Now, he says that he is not retiring and he wants to play. I thought that he would have no market, but it seems that a few teams are calling him for his services.
In the Olympics, Bode Miller finally won a gold medal. The skier solidified his status as the greatest in American history. He has always been great, but has never turned in a big Olympic performance until this year.
Team USA upset Canada 5-3. Ryan Miller had some great heroics in the goal, but his opponent was on the other end of the spectrum. The great Martin Brodeur gave up five goals, and a couple were pretty much giveaways. He has since been benched by star Robert Luongo, but the damage has already been done. Not saying that Brodeur is a bad goalkeeper now, but he is bad in Brodeur terms. Canada played better throughout the game, but the goalie play stated the game.
