Recent NFL and Website News

April 21st 2010 14:21
A lot of signings and trades went by. I will review those, but I would like to say something first. A good friend of mine will be joining the blog soon. This blogger is really knowledgeable and will exclusively write football posts. One of them may be on Toby Gerhart.

The NFL schedule was released. The Vikings and Saints- is that a new rivalry? Will open the NFL season. That is a home run compared to other opening day games like the Pats and Raiders or the Dolphins and Steelers.

Speaking of the Steelers, I have some quarterback news. Byron Leftwich will have a second stint as the backup of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bucs traded him back to Pittsburgh for seventh round pick. The deal makes a ton of sense because the Bucs want youth and don't need Leftwich anymore, whereas the Steelers could really care less about a seventh rounder.

This trade means that the Bumble Bees- I had to throw that one in there- have four quarterbacks on their roster. More importantly, it means that they are not optimistic about Roethlisberger. Hopefully Big Ben gets suspended for the year. I am sick of his act.

The Detroit Lions traded Ernie Sims to the Eagles. The Eagles traded a fifth round pick to the Broncos. The Broncos traded Tony Scheffler and a seventh round pick to the Lions. The Eagles got a pretty good deal C , the Broncos got a bad deal D, and the Lions got a good deal B. Scheffler is a very good tight end. That tandem with Brandon Pettigrew to help out receivers Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson is amazing. Matthew Stafford has weapons. I really like what the Lions' front office is doing. Now go draft Ndamokung Suh!

Veteran Torry Holt used to be an elite receiver. The old man is on his last legs, but he did manage 51 catches and 772 yards last year with the Jacksonville Jaguars bad passing game. The New England Patriots just signed him up. Smart move because he is a great choice to be the third option. Veterans like that give you the smarts that can put you to the top. They just don't have the awe-striking numbers and big-play ability they used to.

Jason Taylor has been calling out the Jets for a long time. Now, he signed a two year deal to play linebacker for them. The former top defensive end, another veteran here, is not a great player anymore. In fact, he's pretty bad. But this year the Jets want to make a big push to win the Super Bowl. Taylor's experience will help and might make Vernard Gholston a little more bearable.

Remember back in 2004 when Donovan McNabb was the best quarterback in the game? Really, he was. Remember how they made it to the Super Bowl and lost? Remember how Terrell Owens and McNabb hated each other? Well, now that they have grown up six years and turned into veterans past their primes, D-Nabb wants T.O. back.

He wants the familiar showboat superstar at the bottom of his career. However, you can't call Owens a downgrade. T.O. has no chance of dividing the locker room with Mike Shanahan around. This is interesting, but I am glad that they don't hate each other. I doubt that the Redskins sign Owens.

Quick News. Giants want CJ Spiller. McNabb is denying the T.O. reports. The Vikings expect Favre to return, and they fully expect. Childress has no definite answer yet. Steelers may consider trading Roethlisberger. Raiders may pick Iupoti. The Giants won't trade Osi. Gerald Sensabaugh is close to a long-term deal as reports say.

The new picture on the is to honor the death of former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch.
