Richard Jefferson Finally Signs
July 22nd 2010 17:27
RJ didn't leave, much to the relief of the San Antonio Spurs. Jefferson was actually going to be owed a whopping 15.2 million next year in his original contract. However, he made the smart move for the long term and opted out in order to get a longer deal. He will still make a lot of money; second highest on the team. The actual monetary value was not released. The move was great for RJ because there could be a possible lockout.
Undrafted free agent Jeremy Lin signed a deal with the Golden State Warriors. This is a move that is looked at too much. In all honesty, he could be a bench player at best in the NBA. The Harvard guard was good last year, but I am skeptical about success now. The Asian and Ivy League hype is ridiculous. Isn't Yi a proven Asian that nobody talks about?
The Philadelphia 76ers beefed up their defensive frontcourt after the Dalembert trade by signing veteran center Tony Battie. The big man enjoyed a decent career with teams such as Orlando.
The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to bolster their bench, especially their guards. They signed veteran Royal Ivey. He was extremely underrated with the Hawks, and I think he can be valuable off the bench. Ivey is a quick, smart, experienced, intelligent, defensive, and hustle-minded guard. People say it is pointless, but he will really help the development of Harden and Westbrook.
I just want to note that America are still the best team heading into the FIBA Championships. They may not have Kobe or LeBron, but I Durant and others can really do a great job at leading the way. Why sweat at Tyson Chandler? The dude is still a strong, defensive presence on the inside. I don't think Ricky Rubio's pretty face wants to meet some real muscle.
Another thing to keep in mind, we still have Odom and Gay playing. Spain and Germany will be without their best players. For those of you that don't know, Gasol and Dirk respectively.
