Sport Great: Where Sports are Great

April 1st 2010 17:04
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well yesterday, I had no time to create a post, so I apologize for that. Today is April Fool's day, to those that celebrate it, I wish you a merry day. Luckily, I didn't get pranked today.

I want to begin with a topic that has emerged into sports' headlines. Colin Cowherd said that Kevin Durant was overrated during Sportsnation. First off, I have never watched that show nor do I plan on ever watching it. There was an outrage against that comment from fans. How can anyone call KD overrated?

It really depends on the context. I don't know the context of his statement, but it is the most important thing. The Duranchula is one of the best pure scorers in the league right now. However, many people consider him the second best player in basketball. If Cowherd meant that Durant is not the second best in the league, then I would understand. However, the word "overrated" throws people off direction. Usually we associate overrated with "bad", even though we shouldn't. With that in mind, I would like to show you where I rank top players. I hope you all disagree, and we can have a nice comment discussion.

1. LeBron James- There is little argument against LBJ
2. Kobe Bryant- An emphatic scorer and defender. Impossibly icy down the stretch
3. Dwight Howard- Center is a very thin position in this league, and Howard is the best shot-blocker and rebounder in the league as well as the best center
4. Dwayne Wade- Steals, dunks, passes, and pure scoring are what this guy regularly does an extraordinary job of as he leads the Heat
5. Chris Paul- Gets a ton of assists, a ton of steals, and is the best scoring point guard in the league and the best point guard overall in the league
6. Kevin Durant- Props to Durant's scoring and leadership

7. Carmelo Anthony- A very fearsome scorer
8. Steve Nash- The best passer and free throw shooter in basketball
9. Amare Stoudamire- Very dominant big man. Arguably the best power forward in the game
10. Dirk Nowitzki's scoring is emphatic
11. Chris Bosh- Great inside presence defensively and offensively
12. Manu Ginobili- Great ball handler and scorer. Best player on Spurs
13. Joe Johnson- Most underrated player in the game
14. Gerald Wallace- Great player that is often overlooked
15. Monta Ellis- His huge steal numbers are overlooked because of his great scoring capabilities
16. Pau Gasol- An absolute monster on the inside
17. Rudy Gay- Big-time scorer and gets good boards
18. Brandon Roy- 20 points a night, no problem
19. Deron Williams- Third best point guard in the league
20. Rajon Rondo- Gotta love his talent
21. Tyreke Evans- He has game
22. Russell Westbrook- Can somebody give him more appreciation?
23. Paul Pierce- The Truth is still a big scorer
24. Derrick Rose- Love his O, hate his D
25. Andrew Bogut- Rounds out the big 15. Great center

Now that I have finished with the NBA, I want to say a couple of baseball things. Albert Pujols will slump this year. I have no idea how, but he will. Ubaldo Jimenez is quietly becoming a superstar. Expect him to post monster totals. This year is the year that Ichiro Suzuki declines. Matt Holliday and Miguel Cabrera will combine to hit 90 homers. Carl Crawford will be third in MVP voting. Rajai Davis will steal 50 bases. Yunel Escobar and Alexi Ramirez will combine to score 200 runs. Gordon Beckham will be a top 5 fantasy 3B.

So, let's wait and see if any of these predictions will be fulfilled. I doubt it, but you never know. I was right about DeJuan Blair, Hasheem Thabeet, Toney Douglas, and a slew of other NBA rookies.
