The NFL's Best Center
August 3rd 2010 14:06
The Chicago Blackhakws signed Marty Turco. When you read that sentence, you will either feel extremely happy or annoyed. A fan of a contending team, say Washington, might swear in disgrace. The Hawks dominated the NHL last year. Their mix of young talent, offense, and stingy defense led them to the Stanley Cup Finals victory. Niemi was a decent goalie, but Turco is a star. What does this mean? Well, it's a whole lot harder to score against Chicago.
This whole Revis garbage is getting annoying. It's actually helping Revis. If you think about it, all this bad publicity pressures the Jets to get a "Ray Lewis" off their back, so to speak. Like, you don't want a linebacker literally on your back. Yeah, I don't own a website devoted to comedy. Anyway, on to the next subject.
A lot of people ask me who the best center in the NFL is. I always say, Ryan Kalil. People look at me funny and ask, who's that? I laugh and say, well you know a lot about football. Kalil is just 25 and he is already a great leader. Did I mention that the 2009 Pro Bowler could get a lot better. Call me whatever you want, but I think that Kalil has the upside to become a Hall of Famer. If you're the best center now, then you are already on your way.
It is time for you to learn a little bit more about the NFL. Today's lesson, Sam Cowart. He was a 6 foot 2 linebacker that weighed 245 pounds. Cowart was a second round pick in 1998 by the Buffalo Bills.
Sam was a Florida State player in college. He was a Floridian through and through and born in Jacksonville, Florida. He was with the Bills from 1998-2001 wearing the number 56. He wore that same number from 2002-2004 with the Jets. His final number was 55 with the Minnesota Vikings in 2005.
In the year 2000, Sam Cowart was a 2nd team All-Pro selection and a Pro Bowler. He recorded 129 tackles that year. 2000 was his best year. His second best year was in 1999. He totaled 125 tackles in '99.
Cowart had 127 tackles in 2002. His highest career total for tackles came in 2003 when he had a whopping 140 of them. Overall in his career, he was an underrated player that people always overlooked. Nick Barnett and Antonio Pierce are two huge stars that had similar careers to Sam Cowart.
