Unalignment and Trouble in the Dominican
April 25th 2010 16:44
I know about the stuff with the draft happening, but I will let O.J. handle all that. It is great that all the issues with the website and Orble are done with. I am so happy to finally make a post.
Sandy Alderson is trying to stop the corruption in the Dominican Republic. Young, aspiring baseball players that are just teenagers. Identiy fraud is a huge problem in the area. These teenagers are injected with steroids. These steroids are enough to statisfy a horse.
FBI investigators says that team employees are taking money out of the signing bonuses paid to these kids. Dominican baseball is pretty much built on the grounds of deceit. Their secret has now been uncovered.
Buscones are the so called Latino talent brokers. Baseball did not care about this Buscon system for years. They were willing to give little money to poverty-hit families in exchange for their extremely talented children.
The Buscon would take a 25 percent training cut, but sometimes the Buscon would just take all the money or more than 25 percent of it. Usually, the kid he trained never made the majors.
If one guy’s got five players under contract and he’s practicing in the middle of the highway, he calls himself a buscon,” Mercedes said. “It’s out of control. It’s not fair to the kids or us.
If you have a family sign the rights of the kids over to you, welcome to the club. It shouldn’t be that easy. That’s where all these shady characters keep coming in. We’ve got to keep these guys out of the game.”
These buscones will also lie and write that 18 and 17 year olds are really 16 in order to give them more a of a chance of a bigger payday.
The next subject is a little less deep, but it is still very important to us baseball diehards. Since two years ago, I have been a huge fan of unaligning. What is that? You may ask. It is where both leagues will have an even number of teams, move it Brewers.
The best four teams in each league will go to the playoffs, and there will be none of this division stuff. Sorry Yankees vs. Red Sox on ESPN. At least with the new system, we won't have to deal with so many bad matchups like the millions of Indians and Royals games.
This unalignment system also ensures that the best teams make it in. I am sick of the mediocre AL Central teams getting in when a top notch AL East team like the Rays misses out. This new system will ensure a better playoff and regular season experience for fans and players alike.
