Why the #1 NBA Player is a Pointless Argument

We will always hear the people out there calling out that LeBron is the best. After that you will hear the calls of 'Kobe' or Durant. There is really no best player in basketball overall. That is too much of a general title.
Now if I were to say that Dwight Howard was the best shot blocker in the game, that would make sense. I am specifying what he is the best at. It is much too hard to compare two players that play a much different style and what's worse is people compare players that play different positions. There is no way you can compare Howard to a shooting guard like Dwayne Wade. It just doesn't happen that way. Howard dominates the inside while Wade has the quickness to drive and the ability to shoot from midrange. However, center is a position where there is a huge lack of depth in the NBA.
The comparison of players of All-Time is also inaccurate. The main reason is the difference in era. Hard statistics and personal achievement are nearly worthless. You cannot compare Kobe Bryant with Clyde Drexler. Back then, defenses were different and to a larger degree were worse. However, back then a lot of rules benefiting the player on offense were not in play. Back then, hand-checking was allowed and there was no such thing as a lane violation or other rules we have now.
In the future, Bryant and LeBron James as well as others will be ultimately surpassed. There are going to be so many more players in the NBA in the next twenty years. Look at how we hype next year's draft. There is so much talent to talk about. John Wall, Evan Turner, and DeMarcus Cousins could all be the next great things. With more knowledge, technology, and people in the world; there is bound to be another MJ or Bird.
Another topic that I want to raise is the expansion of the NBA Draft. With all these new players and potential stars, the draft should be expanded to five rounds. Why? There is much more talent headed in the NBA draft than in the NFL draft. Five rounds is also nothing compared to seven. That is about a sixty player difference. This will also give more chances to other players. Now I understand that the NBA doesn't have the salary cap the NFL has. However, these players will gladly take a pay cut in order to get a chance to actually play and showcase their skills.
Do you guys also remember how much everyone hates the amount of guaranteed money given to top draft picks in the NFL? Well, this stuff won't happen in the NBA. With a larger group of players, this guaranteed money problem will probably no longer exist.
